Texting and messaging apps are excellent ways to stay in touch with friends and family, and many of the top messaging apps for Android are jam-packed with a variety of entertaining and helpful functions. For example, Live Location is a function that is available on Telegram that allows you to share your location with friends and contacts and see their locations in return if they have also chosen to share their locations with you in return. What this looks like is very similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map and Apple’s Find My Friends, if you are familiar with any of these applications. We’ll go over how to use Live Location on Telegram, what limitations you can set for it, and why you should be picky about who you share your location information with.
Live Location Telegram
When it comes to sharing one’s location in real time with friends, Telegram’s Live Location function is very similar to Google Maps‘ “Share Location” option, which allows users to share their current location with their contacts.
Telegram’s Live Location feature also allows you to keep track of your friends and family members by tracking them in real time or over a set period of time. Of course, it is possible to track things in a certain time frame as well.

How to Take Advantage of The Live Location Feature
One feature that distinguishes Telegram’s Live Location from other similar services is that it is not accessible through a separate map tab or button in the app. Rather, you must communicate your location with other people via a chat thread. You may set time limitations on how long you reveal your location, ranging from 15 minutes to eight hours, just like you can with some of those other services. Here’s how to do it.
Ensure that you have the most recent version of the Telegram application loaded on your smartphone before proceeding with the procedures given below. The reason for this is that the Live Location function is only available in Telegram versions 4.4 and above.
If you are using an older version of the app than v4.4, the location of people you text on Telegram will not be shared or tracked by you.In addition, they would not be able to trace you. Please upgrade your Telegram app in order to take advantage of this feature to its full potential.
Step 1: The first step is to launch the Telegram app and the chat window of the person with whom you wish to share your location.
Step 2: To the right of the text box, select the paperclip icon.

Step 3: After that, you’ll be presented with a choice of possibilities. The icon labeled “Location” should be selected.

Step 4: if you are utilizing the Live Location function for the first time, Telegram will seek permission to access and utilize your device’s location and GPS information. By selecting Allow from the pop-up menu, you can grant Telegram access to your location information.
Following that, the location sharing window of the Telegram app will appear.

Step 5: Choosing the “Send my current location” option from the Location window is the 5th step.
The recipient will receive a text message with your current location encoded in it.
He or she will see a map with your present position when they click on the location-embedded text. If your friends want to find out where you are, they can use this map to get directions to your location by clicking on the arrow icon at the bottom of the map.
Send Selected Location
The Telegram app, as previously noted, also enables your friends and family to track your whereabouts in real-time.
Step 1: The first step is to identify your target audience. Open the Telegram app and tap the name of the person with whom you wish to communicate your current location in real time. Next, tap the paperclip symbol, select Location from the list of options, and in the new Location window that appears, select the option to “Share My Live Location for…” on the right-hand side.

Step 2: You’ll be asked to pick how long you’d like to share your live location with the person you’ve chosen in step two of the process. Your friend will be able to see your exact location in real time for 15 minutes, an hour, or 8 hours if you want to share it with them.
How Long you’d Like to Share Your Live Location
You can specify how long you want the individual to keep track of your whereabouts and activities.
It is important to note that you have the option to cease sharing your location at any time. Further discussion of this will be provided in the following sections.
Step 3: After selecting the duration of the location sharing, click on the Share button to proceed.
Telegram then embeds your location information into a text message and sends it to the receiver.

Step 4: The recipient will be able to watch your travels in real time for the length of time you specify after he or she clicks on the text.
Step 5: To turn off location sharing, tap the location-embedded text and then click the “Stop Sharing Location” button at the bottom of the screen, as seen in the screenshot below:
To stop sharing your location with Telegram, you can swipe down your phone’s notification tray and hit the “Stop Sharing Location” button on the Telegram notification card, which will close the notification.

Keep Tabs on Everyone
Using Telegram, you can share your position with others and also keep track of the whereabouts of your loved ones in real time. Keeping track of your children while you’re at work is a very convenient feature. The Live Location tool is extremely useful for directing users to a mapped location, hangout spot, or any other pinned location in real time.
It is important to communicate your whereabouts with others, and even form a group, so that your family is not concerned about your whereabouts while you are traveling. Unfortunately, the capability is not available on Telegram’s desktop/PC application or web version. It can only be accessed through the Telegram mobile application itself. Hopefully, Telegram will implement the capability on the PC in the near future.
Even if you do not explicitly off Live Location Sharing, it will expire after a period of time determined by the setting you selected (no longer than 8 hours). You may, however, want to be cautious about how often and with whom you share your location information, as it can be harmful.
Investigations into security It was recently brought to our attention by Ahmed that Telegram’s People Nearby function (which is distinct from the Live Location feature) could reveal your specific location to strangers, with whom you had absolutely no intention of sharing that information. The procedure is a little convoluted, but it is certainly conceivable; therefore, while it is not necessarily a threat that you should be concerned about, it is something you should be aware of. Personal preference dictates that I never use this option, but that’s just me. Your location-sharing preferences will be determined by your own decisions, which you will have to make yourself.
It is vital to consider the privacy and security features of a messaging app before you begin sharing your location and personal information with others. Before you begin, compare Telegram vs. Signal vs. WhatsApp and other options to see which is the best fit for your needs.
If you decide to make use of these capabilities on Telegram, you may also want to understand how to turn on or off Telegram’s last seen online timestamp, as well as how to enable two-factor authentication in the app, before proceeding.
Now that you’ve learned a little more about how to be safe on Telegram, we wish you a safe and productive messaging experience!
